Well I don't know about depression exactly, but banana and seafood (not together) have lots of energy that is released slowly throughout the day. Drinking .... you guessed it .... lots of water throughout the day keep you feeling fresh and is good for everything really.
Do you exercise? Keeping active certainly helps and releases happy hormones :D
In my Foods That Harm Foods That Heal book it say for depression to eat plenty of whole grains, peas, lentils and all pulses, fresh fruit and veg, lean meat, poultry and offal and fish and shellfish. Avoid booze and caffeine.

Iv just joined a gym today and a yoga class,I dont drink enough water although i no i should but im going to start thanks natalie.
Check that you are getting all the essential fatty acid omega watsits in your diet. When I was suffering, the clinical psychologist at my GPs suggested UDO's Choice oil, to make sure I was getting the omega 3, omega 6, omega 9. I told him that I did not believe it would work (great sceptic that I am). I ate my words after a few days - it certainly helped to lift my mood. This is the site of the UK distributors: it's cheaper to buy direct from them than to get it from the local pharmacy or health store. http://www.savant-health.com/default.asp

thanks alot pinus il definatly try the omegas il try anything.cheers.
I'd agree with the others on the food aspects, but it may be worth taking St John Wort aswell
Try to avoid processed carbs and refined sugars as consuming these can lead to peaks and troughs in your blood sugar levels and cause mood swings. We have also gone - mostly - organic which also seems to help. Since chnaging diet my wife has managed to halve her antidepressant dosage with no ill effect. Good Luck

Thanks guys i feel better already having read your replys and knowing there is ways i can feel better just by changing my diet.
I would recommend taking St Johns Wort. But be careful if you are on the contraceptive pill as it interferes with that and can make it less effective.
Take a B vitamin supplement - that's supposed to help as well.
Hi christie, a few weeks back I was also feeling very down & depressed & also placed a question on here about it. After all the positive replies I received from caring people, I began to feel so much better & certainly not alone. Talking about depression can only be a good thing, as it gets it out of your system, helps you evaluate your life & the way you tick. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Christie, I have started eating an avocado every day. These are apparently very good for you and have plenty of B vitamins which are good for the nervous system. They also taste very nice, which cheers me up!!! (PS Chocolate is very good as well!!)

Hi Christie, just been reading the posts and thought I'd mention that if you are taking a G.P. prescribed antidepressant St Johns Wort is a definite no-no!! The two don't mix... You could use Bach Flower Remedies (they helped me), or any of the other flower remedies as none of them affect other medication...The health shops should be able to point you in the right direction on that one. Good luck and believe me, it does get better...got the medals and a couple of t-shirts to prove it!!
