I always make a load of bolognese style sauce, so I can have it on pasta, then turn it into a chili con carne, over rice or potatoes, or make a pasta bake with the leftovers.
I cook very rarely now, its just no fun for one!
Im afraid I eat a lot of ready meals, apart from spag bol now and then, oh and tonight it was beef stroganoff, mustve been a mad moment lol
God no - you should never re-heat leftovers should you???
Of course you should Icey! Why on earth would you waste food? all the hype about not reheating things is bullcrap, sorry! I've done it my whole life, so has my mum, and nobody died! As long as you don't keep them for more than a couple of days, it's absolutely fine.
My husband makes a great stir fry with left over meat
my mum always did when we were growing up, and my dad made smashing suppers with leftovers
Hello everyone,

I live on my own so when I do a roast chicken I have loads of leftovers. I stir-fry some of it and make soup with the rest. Then I usually freeze the carcas with a bit of meat on and make stock as and when I need it.
hey tiggs, where u been? not seen you for yonks !
or is it my imgination lol
Hi Weeal, xxx

I haven't been around much cos of work and being tired. And I've been watching Most Haunted live. I don't care if some people on here were dissing it, I actually enjoyed it.
Hi Dusty..................mix the leftovers, and throw in one of Patak's Indian sauces ( as recommended by Whiffey!!!)

Knock up a couple of chapatis....................you're done :o)
Builder noooooooooooooooo Im just recovering hahaha

Glad u enjoyed it tiggs - someone has to eh ! lol
Hi Tigger!
I hope you're right, max, but we know a lot more about the effects of bacteria on food than people did in bygone days, and food poisoning or stomach upsets were probably just passed off as something else.
I'm sure loads of people re-heat stuff all the time, and they're fine, but personally I wouldn't risk it. x
Food should be reheated to a core temperature of 82 degrees celcius then it is perfectly safe to eat; 75 degrees is fine for the initial cooking but again that should be the core temperature.
Hi Icey, xxx

I re-heat most leftovers. I just can't stand wasting food. I freeze some stuff as well. I've seen Nigella Lawson freezeing loads of cooked foods on her programmes.
I've always used up them thar left overs - either in stews, curries (yep, I love my curries) or in omelettes - that's a great way of padding out a few vegetable left overs - just heat them up and pour over a couple of beaten eggs etc. Like Max, I always have a home made tomato sauce in the freezer, ready to pour over the bits and bobs in the fridge if an omelette won't do.
Ice, we do know a lot more about it. But we also store things much better, as well as clean food prepation equipment and surfaces a lot more efficiently, so ambiant presence of bacteria likely to have adverse effect is greatly dicreased.

The only time I got food poisoning in 5 years is two days ago, when I ate a chinese take away!
lol max I didnt like to mention the food poisoning in this thread - I know it was takeaway tho

hi builder . were talking abut food not sand cemet what the labourer brought for his pack lunch
Left overs are perfectly safe to eat, either cold as long as they have been properly refridgerated, or hot as long as they are thoroughly reheated. Another way to use the rest of your roast and ensure that it is properly reheated, is to slice it and put it into a casserole dish with gravy, and any left over veggies and put, coverd, in the oven at about 200 C for about 30 mins - it will be properly reheated and not dry becasue of the gravy. Hmmm - always tastes better 2nd day - that goes for most things esp. bolognaise, chilli or soup.
Where did Icey's posts go???
