Hi

We have a Baxi solo 3PFL Range boiler (not combi) installed 2003 when we also had new rads added to an extension (9 rads in total). Hoping to get another 5 years out of this boiler but it is cutting out. We have black sludge coming from rads. Do you think that by replacing the older rads we could avoid flushing out the system until maybe the Spring? Any advice appreciated.

Could be the boiler stat, assume the pump is working and not too many thermostatic valves (if fitted) are shutting down

Thank you.

New pump fitted 2 weeks ago. Boiler is overheating apparently.
check header tank has water
2 points:
the boiler is heating up and the boilerstat does appear to be doing its job, so get that checked as to why it is occuring
also the system is dirty and needs to be cleaned.before putting inhibitor in the tank drain and take off each rad that needs to be hosed out in your garden . this is a mundane task but if the system is dirty with sludge the inhibitor is a waste of time and money untill it is cleaned out.
