if you are buying pre prepared sauces theres nothing else to do. Cook the chicken or the veg in the red sauce in a frying pan till the chicken or veg is cooked. Then layer the red, white sauce and lasagne an put some cheese on top and put in the oven for 40 mins on gas mark 5

sorry that was meant to be do i put the cheese on top before it goes in the oven ans i thought it might burn or shall I wait till the end and grill it?

You can put the cheese on top before you cook it. When it goes golden and bubbly, your lasagne is done.

For a vegetable lasagne I usually use about 200g mushrooms (sliced), one onion (chopped), two carrots (roughly grated) and a red pepper (deseeded and chopped). Start the onion off in a deep frying pan with a liitle oil first. When it begins to soften add the rest of the veg and the tomato sauce.

To go with it a bit of green salad and some garlic bread is usually sufficient. If you're feeding lots of people though you might need some chunky chips or potato wedges to make it go further.

For dessert I'd avoid anything too stodgy as the lasagne will be pretty filling. Ice cream with fresh berries and a squirt of raspberry sauce? Nice and easy, and refreshing to end the meal. I recommend either that or some sort of fruit pavlova.

Thanks that was really helpful...I shall give it a go...the white sauce only goes on top doesnt it?...not in th emiddle layers????

When I make it the layers go (starting at the bottom):

Lasagne
Red sauce
White sauce
Lasagne
Red sauce
White Sauce
Lasagne
A little white sauce (just enough to coat the lasagne and stop it drying out in the oven) and grated cheese

But I suppose you can also go with lasagne/red/lasagne/red/lasagne...then put all the white sauce on top. If you're buying the sauces ready made, have a look at the recipe suggestions on the labels and see what they suggest.

Thank you, you are a star...Though I'm feeling this is going to be a disaster, maybe I should just go with beans on toast!! haha!!

Very helpful deenie, thanks...

Do you not possess even the simplest recipe book?
Courgettes are lovely in a veg lasagne, along with the mushrooms, carrots, peppers and onions.

I cannot eat a chicken lasagne..maybe it is just me, but chicken & pasta just don't compliment each other in my gob!

Yes I was thinkingh about adding courgettes too! Chicken and pasta??....yum thats what my main diet is!!
Yes I do posess a cookery book but I cannot follow the recipies, I always seem to miss things out and get in a flap. I am not very confident in the kitchen I am afraid and it's also nice to get other peoples opinions and ideas of how they cook things themselves!

Ooooh yes ~ don't forget to crush or chop a clove of garlic into the pan as the onion is cooking!

No probs regarding the chicken ~ actually I did have a rather nice chicken and pasta dish in a restaurant once. Not sure about it in lasagne though...lol
