Is there a fool proof way of cracking an egg without breaking the yolk? It seems to be down to pure luck with me.

Have the eggs as fresh as poss and at room temp. free range and pref organic eggs seem to have more robust yolks than cheaper eggs. This will maximise your chances but no guarantee!!
The great golfer, Gary Player, said: "The more I practise, the luckier I get." Wise words! So, keep on practising, Deore, and the ability to do it correctly will become steadily easier, as I'm sure this applies to egg-cracking as much as it does to playing golf.
Use blunt side of knife, hold egg in palm of hand and deliver a robust tap. Then pull egg apart carefully with fingertips. Also of course don't be crackingth eggs from a great height into the pan... I reckon I break about 1 yolk in twenty
Slowly and gently crack it on something sharpish, then very slowly let the egg out of the shell.
I work in catering and there is no fool proof way. Being as careful as possible is best but even then...
