I was growing two plants of Okra Red Burgundy from seed in pots. Each grew to about an inch in height and produced two yellow leaves. Then the leaves began to turn brown at the edges and shrivel.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm a little surprised to hear of okra being grown in the U.K., but that has more to do with my ignorance of your actual weather conditions, I suspect. Here in the U.S. okra is a warm climate plant. It likes lots of sun and good warm soil. Don't fertilize with much nitrogen and keep it well drained. It tolerates drought but if it does require watering give it a good soaking no more than once a week. It's of the Hibiscus family and originally from Africa, again supporting its need for warm weather. About the only problems my friends in Arkansas report is with some powdery mildew which is controlled by any commercial spray (I like any with Neem oil) and the insects typical of warm weather gardens...
Yellowing of the first leaves in a plant are usually an indication of overwatering. For more serious problems with okra, there's a lot of information here
