whilst in scotland for the first time last year i visited a roadside snackwagon for a sausage bap, after ordering i was asked the question 'square or link?' this confused me greatly, surely a link sausage is a sausage and a square sausage is a sausage burger,so my question is ,is the square sausage just a scottish phenomenon because ive never seen them in england before.?

you can buy these culinary treats in england too (from the freezer shop that sounds like a country). i'm sure the contents of them are one grade down from that of a link, but they taste braw with pepper and broon sauce. also being square they fit in yer piece or roll easier.

they're also much quicker to cook. i suppose it could also be called a sausage burger but i've never heard of these before have you?

Unless you're really into the Scottish "fat-overload" food thing...eg deep-fried Mars Bars...I strongly advise you to grill rather than fry the square - or Lorne - sausage. It's absolutely delicious, as Bob suggests, but you'll find your grill-pan positively awash...you could probably start a supply-contract with BP if you ate it regularly!

(Thanks for the freezer-shop information, B...I didn't know this treat was available to us exiles.)

LORNE, that's the fella - couldn't remember the name today! Cheers QM for that. Also, I had never realised before that you were one of "us".
Aye and whit aboot roond sausages as well then eh? Nearly all the smart cookies on here are from gods own country Bob......;>)
you beat me to it sft - nought like "round square" to REALLY fit yer roll. (and its got to be a REAL roll, not one of those bap thingies!!) :)
And its got to be a "well fired" roll!
yeah, with black bits falling aff!
Not only do Iceland sell them but I buy them regularly from Tesco's freezer section. Me and the Jr Constantines love 'em, especially in a bap/roll/other non-sliced loaf bread product with a fried egg and some brown sauce.
In childhood holidays in Scotland we always used to ask for "Steak Lorne". Is that not the case any more? Mmm, yum.
chinajan, u can buy steak lorne, better quality ingredients I suppose, more meaty.
constantine, some would say a wee tattie scone added to that would help it along!
Well excuse me you lot , theres a starving/dieting person here desperately trying to avoid food by surfing and what do I find! All this talk of baps and fried egg on top of lovely grilled lorne. Gah!
why - when there's a topic on a scottish delicacy does everyone start typing in ridiculous scottish slang thats just not right when typed! you aint fooling no-one!
"Awa'an bial yer heid, yae sassanach !---- Hee! Heee!
guffaw guffaw - your so cool because you can type in a scottish slang - well done (you get a chocolate watch)
Hey winemaker.. ya wanna square-go, ya wee numpty? Ah'll malkie yer heid in.. ;)
