I recently bought �25 in Sainsbury gift vouchers and sent them to a friend in a birthday card. On receipt of the card it was found that the envelope had been slit, and the vouchers stolen. The Post Office say normal first class mail should not be used for sending valuables and that I cannot claim. I still have my Visa receipt, can I claim the value back from Visa?
No, think about it, if you bought an item of clothing on visa and lost it, you couldn't really expect them to pay for it, would you? Valuables should really be sent recorded delivery (where you can claim up to �30 for lost goods), or by registered post
birthday cards will probably be easily identified by posties, very few posties are thieves but you do get them so thats why the post office tell you not to send valubles or money through the post especially in bright red envelopes.
