freezing frest fish

My husband has gone sea fishing today and is hopefully returning home with cod. I am told they will be gutted and boned on the boat. Can I just put them in a freezer bag and freeze them? Any advice would be great preferably before 9pm when he should return with the booty. Thanks in advance.
