My friend went to America recently and bought a bacon press which is like a cast iron base with wooden handle. It literally presses the bacon flat when cooking, so it doesn't curl and cooks evenly all over. Does anyone know where I can buy one in the UK (preferably Sth East England if possible). Thanks

No, but I want one...
I had one a few years ago and I bought it from Lakeland, not sure if they do them any longer.

Have also found some some by googling but they all seem to be on american websites :-(

I have to say though, although it was very good, as it was made of cast iron, it would go rusty if I didn't dry it properly after washing and I ended up throwing it away.

Thank you. I'll try lakeland website..
I`m with cheekychops on this one...thought that it was going to be the anwser to my prayers, but it was more like a nightmare! It`s just as easy to cut slightly in to the derinded side of the rasher several times and then it has a chance to flatten out not curl up.
They are making them out of other things now - instead of just cast iron - even glass:)

For those of you interested... I have managed to locate cast iron and also aluminium bacon press, on ebay USA site (www.ebay.com) search "bacon press". I have asked a few to give me shipping costs to UK, so if you're interested take a look... by the way, my mate has used hers and its fantastic, the bacon is flat and the steaks cook quicker.

It suddenly came to me, as she'd bought it from the USA to give the ebay USA site a go - and there they were.... good luck to you all.. I've already purchased one as a 'buy now' option from USA.

sorry forgot to add::::: Thank you to all for replying. And on the advise of CheekyChops and Snowy Owl, I will be sure to dry it properly to ensure it don't rust.
Don't bother buying one. What we do in hotels to get flat bacon is to put in on a baking tray, greasproof on top, then another tray on top of that. Then stick it into the oven at the highest temperature possible.

brilliant... i'll that one a try in the meantime. I've already purchased the bacon press on a buy it now option, wish i'd seen your answer before i bought it... thanks for the idea.
Who needs a press?? The side that has the fat down it - just make a few cuts through the fat to the bacon meat - this prevents it curling up because it's the fat that shrinks and makes the meat curl - when the fat is snipped it can't get shorter and curl up thus not making the bacon meat curl up
