Can anyone recommend a good African - specifically West African - cookbook or website featuring recipes from West Africa? I'm surrounded by Nigerian and Ghanaian shops, but - even though I lived in Nigeria for many years - wouldn't know what all the food items are or when to use palm oil, etc . . .

There are piles of good places to start looking online. Try www.bet.com/food which has lots of Ghanian recipes, inlcuding a lovely one with okra. There is www.home.earthlink. net, which is a West African vegetable page, detailing the vegetables' identification, origin and recipes, and www.users,inr.net which guides you to West African Chop and has details for things such as Seafood Coconut rice with Tomato, usuing ingredients you can find in this country.

www.congocookbook.com is very good for recipes and describing origins and uses of different ingredients. It also allows you to search for recipies by country or ingredient.
