yak! what are the black creatures in my rice?

just moved house and went to cook some rice i had left , packed it from kitchen unit in previous house, could have been at back of cupboard?? anyway, went to rinse it and omg, black creatures that looked the size of fleas were alive and floating on the top of the water, disgusting. what are these creatures and do you think they have spread into my other cupboard foods?

omg, i think you are right judging from the picture. i feel sick!!!!! does this mean that the rice i bought initially had them in it or have they got into the packet somehow from my cupboard. maybe all rice has them but they just dont get chance to hatch? yak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry, Bubbles, - they're quite harmless. Just dump any foodstuffs that have them in it.
Jenna's link tells you the kind of foods they go for, usually cereal products like flour, etc.
Sailors of old reputedly used to tap ship's biscuits on the table to dislodge the little varmints before tucking in, and they didn't seem to come to any harm from eating the odd one or two!
Yes they're weevil's bubbles. Always rinse your rice thoroughly before cooking, that gets rid of the little pests.
think they are weevles too.dont know anything about them apart from ive had them before.you need to disguard any opened food which might contain them and in future put your opened foods in a sealable plastic container.hope ive been helpfull
