Does any manufacturer make real picallily anymore, I mean the sort with nice sized pieces,and real taste?

Haywards (the non-sweet version) is quite good - large-ish pieces of gerkin and cauliflower, and whole silver skin onions. But I know what you mean, it's not like it use to be!

Branston make a good chunky Picallili.
Go to a garden centre, or good farm shop, and try their "unbranded" / farmhouse style picalilli's
