Starbuck's roasts coffee longer than most to give it a very strong taste. Roasted even longer than espresso according to the demo by Starbuck's staff at a local restaurant under the then new new aegis of Derrick Burns, later personal chef to Larry Ellison (oracle) Here in Sf where strong , almost burnt coffee is stylish , Starbucks placed 13th in a blind tasting of about 18 coffees from different roasters. Various chefs were the tasters. Personally, I find it acrid along with many of the local roasts. Probably the name rather than the quality is the major selling point. Italian & Fench friends consider it overroasted, burnt. There is superior coffee by superior roasters. In Sf try Graffeo on Columus.
To make a genuine Starbuck's coffee, search for a thin, over-roasted almost acid brand of coffee, then filter it and leave for approx 3 hours on the hotplate. At least, that's what Starbucks did the only time I bought a cup of coffee from them. I did get my money back!
