I am going to stop drinking lager as it is giving me a beer belly! Can anyone recommend good alternatives with spirits?I like the sound of Gin and Tonic but I've never tried it!

Assuming you would like a longer drink rather than just a short short (so to speak), IMHO G&T is a lovely refreshing drink, but you may not like the taste of gin, some people don't - 'fraid you'll have to taste it to find out!

Alternatively you could try Vodka & tonic, Bacardi (white rum) & coke or even a Spritzer made with white wine & soda (or lemonade if you prefer it sweeter). There are also the vermouths - Cinzano, Martini - that you can mix with soda or lemonade.

Not sure this will actually help with the old beer-belly though - alcohol in any form is fattening, but we can but try..!

....now all this talk of beer, wine and spirits is giving me a thirst - last one to the bar is paying..!!!

Vodka is tasteless (when compared with other spirits) so good to mix with anything (hence the alcopops boom), so a vodka with diet coke would be a slimmer alternative, or a martini (lots of vodka with a splash of vermouth, over lots of ice - don't buy the ready-made Martini as it's pooey). My personal favourite is a scottish malt whiskey over ice. Watch your quantities though! - a large whiskey/vodka is not far off the same calorific value as a pint of lager.
A pint of lager contains 200 calories. There are 3600 cals to 1lb of fat, so theoretically, 18 pints adds up to 1lb, providing you don't use the calories up by doing some activities.

Why not drink less but do some regular exercise... that way you can have your cake and eat it. After all, giving up lager (or beer in my case) is a very drastic measure not to be taken lightly!!!

imho do the world a favor, give up beer. Along with it belching and farting. Drink less calories worth of alcohol.
You'll hate his idea but have you considerd trying non-alchocolic beer it's really not that bad.
