I'm cooking Baked Lemon and Basil Chicken tonight and would like to use some shallots in with this recipe. However I have no idea how to go about doing it , I've never used shallots before.

I'm planning on wrapping the chicken up in tin foil, should I just peel them and chuck them inside the chicken "packages" also?

Thanks! :)

Treat them just like onions... your idea sounds good but make sure they have time to cook through... maybe cut them in half to make sure

Peel them. Give them a 5 minute par boil ,then put them in their own tin foil package with a bit of butter. Carrots cut into strips are also tasty done this way
I have used shallot many times - their a bit of a fiddle with the size and peeling but I've always sliced them finely and stir-fied them and hen added them to anything else- I would just put them in the tinfoil on top of the meat butthey would be quite sft but if you want them crispy then just sitr-fry or dry-fry them just at thn end of cooking and add on top of the chicken
sorry forgot to say that shallots have a much milder taste and flavour than white onions so it is a much more delicate flavour for cooking with
to fidderly for me to use.

just wanted to say your meal sounds lovely hope you enjoy it.:O)

Thanks everyone!
I did what oldwoman suggested, and they turned out fab. Opened the foil 5 mins before the end of cooking so they browned a little. First time I've ever cooked them and you're right, they are fiddly..!!
