At a local produce market recently I bought a pot of Blueberry Jam (the only ingredients are blueberries and sugar). When I got it home I settled down with a tray to enjoy the jam with some freshly-bought crusty bread only to open the jam and discover it to be amost as runny as water. It was too late by now to take it back. Is there any way I can bring it to a jam-like consistency - i.e. it doesn't run out of the jar when I tilt it?

i bought tescos reduced sugar raspberry jam, and although it tastes rather good, it is rather runny as you describe. i wonder if you should boil it up with more sugar? no idea if this would work though.
You will have to get some pectin into it , this is the setting agent when jam making. You can buy a bottle at the chemists which is putting an added price on. Apples are full of pectin if it was blackberry you could have added grated apple and boiled it up again. Not sure this will taste right with blueberries.

Agree with the above. I generally find home-made jams to be much looser, and I love that. As long as it's still rich and flavourful, I don't mind it being runny. I now can't eat the shop-bought ones that are completely stiff and don't move when you tilt the jar. If you really dislike the looseness, tip the sealed jar before buying to see if there's movement.
