I don't go to supermarkets for lunch but I do have salad quite often, there's a market near where I work and I get what they have that day: tomatoes and spring onions always, perhaps cucumber, celery, peppers, fennel, beetroot (if i can get it cooked), avocados. I try to keep it to about four ingredients. Add some beans, usually chickpeas, borlotti or broadbeans (fresh or canned), then some lemon for dressing and that's my salad (I don't eat meat and I don't like lashings of mayonnaise, so it's easier to make my own).
I like a meaty salad, some nice steak in a crispy potato salad, with a grilled tomato! Hold on, i'm thinking of steak & chips. REAL men don't eat salad!
