use by date on food

I have a packet of beef slices i bought on tuesday which has use by 20th on them...will it be ok to eat today or should i not risk it?

smell it!! if it smells ok ( and looks ok) then I would.
I maybe wouldnt test it out on the old or infirm, but id def eat it, and im still alive!
If they've been stored in the chiller section of your fridge and the packet hasn't been opened they should be OK to eat today.

"Use by..." means what it says, 'cos it'll be 'off' after that. "Best Before..." means that it'll be OK after that, but the flavour, and nutritional value, may diminish.
DONT RISK IT i gave my husband some ham that was over by 2 days and gave my son the rest in his school sandwiches and they were both very ill for 3 days i never told them about the ham cos they would have never forgiven me. the eat by date is there for a reason and if it was safe it would say best before

i seem to be fine ....i ate it yesterday! My system can be quite good at rejecting things so would have soon know...will check dates more carefully before buying now!
