My husband has said we have to lower our food bill every week as he feels we are sending to much. There are 3 of us my husband myself and a 2 year old. He said I could easily manage on 50.00 per week. I however think he is taking the p*** does anyone think this is realistic?

there are 3 of us,me my partner and 12yr old son and we easily spend 70-80 a week. 50 wouldnt cut it!!!
I suggest you let your husband do the shopping
i would like to associate myself with the remarks of the two previous speakers........XXX

This is Realistic if you stick to the basics and buy special offers and the stores own brand goods.

My dad does our shoppin online with tesco, he spends about 80, sometimes twice a week! Theres 4 of us, my granny does her weekly shop at morrisons and spends 60-70 theres just her and my granda but she also has 8grand-daughters!
i spend 12 a week in netoo to feed the kids. its more in hoildays as they don't get there shool dinner.
I must be missing something. There are five of us (inc baby) and we spend 50 a week that includes baby milk (about 7) and nappies.
I am trying to cut down on spending too, but I heard for a healthy diet an adult's average food bill per week is a minimum of 28. but i suppose that depends on where u shop too!
Have you tried Iceland Butterfly , they have some really good offers , also try your local farmers market for fresh fruit and veg and meat.
My hubby used to do the shoppin and he could do it easliy for 30 a week , were as I can easliy spend that one one meal.
netoo

50 is possible. Around 8-9pm in the evening the Co-op does really cheap food they are trying to get rid of, then freeze it. You can get quite alot for a fiver for a couple of days food. However it is probably better to get fresher food also whilst you kid is growing. It really depends on how much you have to spend and what your lifestyle is like. I do think your husband should come out to the shops with you and see how he does with the budget!! Maybe a chance for you or him prove a point? Worth a try?

Five of us, three cats, a large puppy and 11 chickens - works out at about 200 a month. But we grow most of our veg and never buy eggs :)

there are two of us and we spend max 30 per week - we are quite poor but we definitely eat very well, just avoid all the packaged stuff / sauces etc and make a proper meal every night from stratch - cheap and easy (easy for me cos my wonderful girlfriend makes it all for me... i have just finished chilli-concarni and then licked the bowl she had been making a chocolate cake in... yes i am 27)

I often have change from 35 for two of us and we certainly don`t go short.I cook most days though, and not many ready meals.I did a lovely chicken curry tonight costing about 2 and froze half of it for another time.

My wife, my 7 year old daughter, my 15 year old step daughter (who never eats a thing) and myself and we spend a minimum of 70 a week...sometimes 110 and occasionally i go back to Tecos in the week and can easily blow another 30.

But, we eat fresh fruit and veg, a roast on a sunday, i like a couple of cans of beer and the mrs has a bottle of wine, the kids never go without anything, the freezers are always well stocked as are the cupboards.

Well Ive done the single parent shopping and I managed to feed me,my son and my teenage daughter, plus 2 cats on 25 per week. But now I am lucky enough to have a partner with a good job,a job myself and so I buy whatever takes our fancy. As Hammerman says,we buy food, plus wine etc and average 80-90 but if I fancy something else in the week I just pop out and but it.But you could definitely do it on 50.

Out of interest, what do you spend a week at the mo??

I have never even thought about how much I spend on food!
Sometimes I shop, sometimes my husband, and as we have seperate accounts , I really have no idea, however would guess, that for the two of us it comes to more than 50 pounds a week.

I buy lots of juice, which is not cheap, and good meat (not prepacked stuff) costs a lot these days, too!

Where do you do your bulk shopping? If there is a Farm Foods outlet near you shop there. They have high-quality produce at low prices.
i shop at morrisons but ive done it for less at lidl.
