I am led to believe it was The Coasters but were they the original artists to record and release 'Poison Ivy'. Cheers.

Well they were the 1st to have a hit with it thats for sure. It got 2 #15 for them in 1959
Hi JonRB, The Rolling Stones, Human Nature and Nylons all also had a hit with Poison Ivy.

And there was me thinking The Dave Clark Five did Poison Ivy first! I remember my mum playing it at home..she was appalled when I bought the version by The Lambrettas!

Is it one of the most covered songs ever?

The only 3 times Poison Ivy has entered the British charts is

Coasters 1959

Paramounts 1964

Lambrettas 1980
