Can anyone advise me on what i can use to colour eggs whilst making Paste eggs for easter. I usually use brown onion skins. I'd preferably rather do it traditionally with some sort of flowers as opposed to using food colouring. Or if anyone has alternative suggestions then fire away. Thanks.

Just had a look at that link and its just what i was looking for, great help chijiki. I was beginning to wonder after i sent in the request as to whether anyone would know what i was on about as I'm not sure if it is a nationwide custom.

Just so a tea advert in the pub last week.

Can't remember the brand, but they actually tried different flavours of their tea to die eggs and got all kind of colours, even blue, with some fruit tea.

I thought that was cool.

You can also use beetroot.

Forgot to add:
What I sometimes do is, draw patterns on the egg with hot wax (my dad made me some kind of device, but you can use a toothpick, too, I guess) before boiling the egg in the dye.

That can look really cool.

i will try the tea's and beetroot.....as for the wax, I'll only get it everywhere and landlady might not be too impressed, especially at doing paste eggs at my age! And with no kids.

Why do you need to have kids to have some fun???

Put old newspapers on your table and you'll be good to go!
