Why then not asperge? Bit OTT to call it Argenteuil, nescafe?
While I agree there is a great deal of pretentious nonsense concerning food, there are also a number of similar terms that have been absorbed in our language. For example 'florentine' means 'with spinach' and provencale is usually garlic, olive oil and tomatoes and so on....perhaps more than we realise.
I understand that these terms relate to regional styles of food. Argenteuil is a place and Omelette or Quiche or Salad Argenteuil would traditionally include asparagus, as in anything implying Sicilian on an Italian menu tells me it'll probably blow my head off.
Oh, goodness, I meant in a hot, spicy way, of course.
also, The asparagus from Argenteuil is said by "Larousse" to have no equals.
