try any or all of these if the jar is a new one ie has never been opened

Tap the side of the top of the jar smartly but NOT TOO HARD on a hard surface. this should break the vacuum seal

Submerse the jar in hottish water for a while if the contents will stand it. Then wrap the jar and lid in a teatowel for extra grip and try

If neither of those work, then you could pierce the lid with a knife or skewer to break the vacuum seal

If the jar has been opened then gunk in the lid is the likliest cause, run under the hot tap to loosen

If you have a pair of rubber gloves put them on you will get a better grip, you can for future use, get a jar opener gadget, they come from kitchen supply shops and those catalogues that peopl put through the door.

GOOD LUCK LOL

This probably won't help you now, but I don't have particularly strong wrists and have bought a Bribantia Gripper gadget with a handle which will open all kinds an sizes of jars and bottles. It costs around 5 and you should be able to buy one from any good hardware shop. It is the one gadget in my kitchen I could not possibly do without.

Yes, sir.prize has identified it. I misspelt the name but that the one! Absolutely indispensible!

As Woofgang says,Tap the side of the jar on a hard surface.Always works for me..( :)..
You can also try using the flat end of a teaspoon or butter knife as a lever between the lid and the jar. It should break the vacuum seal. It always works for me !
Get a child to do it, children are best at everything.
stab a hole in the lid with a sharp knife to let the air out, it workd every time
I give mine a quick tap on the carpet.Always works.
Put an elastic band around the jar lid, works in the same way as the gripper thing described.
get somebody else to open it
or if you dont want a hole in the lid, insert the knifr blade between the edge of the lip and lip of the jar and lever it out a bit, just enough to relieve the pressure.
Put a thick rubber band round the top for grip, then try opening it.
Put an elastic band (or several) around the rim of the lid. this will guarantee your entry into the jar!
