This very drinkable wine is from the Gamay grape, grown on the hot slopes of the south.
Cotes du Rhones are blends, principally of Grenache plus Syrah, Mourvedre and/or Cinsault in the case of red wines or Grenache Blanc, plus Clairette, Bourboulenc, Viognier and/or Rousanne in the case of the whites. Gamay is not grown in the Rhone valley. This grape is the Beaujolais grape and is also grown in parts of the Loire valley.
Aah the gamay is indeed a beautiful grape.
