Hey everyone - if you freeze meat before the use by date and then defrost to eat after the date is the meat is that ok, because I often thought it tasted off but someone told me I was imagining it ... Please help!

Perfectly safe. Freezing extends fresh foods shelf-life quite safely for a few months. Just remember to cook it thoroughly once defrosted (in the fridge).


If you leave it for say 12 months then it is reasonable to expect some deterioration in the texture/flavour.

i always freeze meat and use it after the date,l its always fine, i would recommend that you look on the door of your freezer (inside) as they usually have pics of the meat in question and it will tell you how long you can kep it for.
Puzzled - If you freeze it the moment you get it home, having bought it fresh I'm sure it's OK. We often do this and it's always tasted absolutely fine. But I would recommend using it within a month rather than leaving it much longer. And if by chance the meat has been frozen originally and then thawed out, I wouldn't risk refreezing again.
