I'm certainly old enough to remember that: Over a million housewifes every day open a tin of beans and say beanz meanz heinz! It used to be a TV add in 60's.

No - the advert always had a Z but the tins used not to - I still have a tin in my cupboard with Baked BeanS on it and it doesn't expire until 2007.

I think it changed last year when they rebranded - they also created a new low sugar low salt brand which is more expensive than the same product in a Weight watchers from Heinz tin!

Heinz changed the name on the beans can to Beanz in July 2004 following a large advertising campaign and a new recipe in which salt was reduced.

The press release giving the details and a lot of background on Heinz and beans can be read here : - http://www.responsesource.com/releases/rel_display.php?r elid=19025&hilite=

It's a technicality, now they dont have to include beans in the recipe!
