I had this brilliant idea last night but when I woke up it didn't sound so good but now it's getting better again. So I'll just run it by you if you don't mind.

I'm thinking you had better kick it off with your choice first.
I recommend a series of primary elections then a general vote with a college of the wise allocated a certain number of votes to cast for the two candidates left in the running.
The popular vote only being used to make members feel that they're in some way contributing to the eventual outcome but is essentially meaningless window dressing.

A threshold of 270 should be enough to have one or other declared the winner.

Simple and uncontroversial.
How many categories?

Starting in Dec, we all get 1 or maybe 3 votes for ABer of the Year. We'd have to get someone like Jim or Corby to collate the votes and update the table.
The editorial team could probably set up a thingummy that did it all automatically and anonymously but they're a bit lazy, imo.
Do you want us to give you nominations?
I would like to nominate Mamyalynne , for always making sure that the horses don't get scared.
We've had jokey attempts at similar in the past 'ABer of the Week' and 'Thread of the week' - they were fun but short-lived.

I don't think anything structured would work well at all.
I timed that badly didn't I?

Thanks Mex, I am but a minnow in a big pond :-)

All suggestions welcome.
Off the top of my head, roy, I'd either have Naomi because she's very, very, clever and thinks just like me.
Or Gulliver, because I like the way he ploughs his own furrow with not a passing hoot for any criticism.
Maybe Dougal if he stopped with all the anti-Donald stuff and got back to his quips which are very good, imo.
I was going to say douglas because he is SO witty and often gives me a good laugh.

Of course, if it was the anonymous thingy, I'd probably vote for myself.
Nobody wants nil point, do they?
I think the general standard of ABer is not as good as it once was.
I'd get nil points (haha).
"Nobody wants nil point, do they?" but that's what the vast majority will get. I am very fond of a handful but I wouldn't tell them.
Awww, bless, marge.

But, yeah you're probably right.
I can handle it.

It's uncontroversial, Douglas, but with all the lefties on here we'd still be counting votes on Paddy's Day.
Probably Bobbisox as well.
I’m the same as Prudie, but probably different people.

You have the words in the wrong order. But nice try :-)
