Hi There, My husband and I are purchasing a long awaited for, dream type of Grand piano. We are definately going for a yamaha, as we both love yamaha pianos, and are looking at the GC1 the A1L and the C1L.

My question:
has anyone else had any experience of these pianos, and if so, what would your recommendation be? We are probably going to get it from Chappel's on Bond Street, but do you have an alternative supplier. I have looked on the Net, but without recomendation, I would feel uneasy about purchasing something like this from an unknown e-company.

Cheers dears

I wouldn't know, but if you are getting the same product then why not buy from somewhere who can offer it cheaper? I don't know if this is cheaper than Chappels, I am guessing that anywhere is cheaper than Bond Street, but see here:

I've been lucky enough to own a Yamaha 5'8" C2 Piano for the last 10 years and it just gets better and better. We chose Biggars in Glasgow as a dealer and would recommend a nearby recognised dealer, who can offer support in the early stages of the piano settling in.
I may cost more, but'll be worth it - It's not a guitar you can just pop back with! Also make sure you get a good, regular tuner as well who will look out for any changes in the hammers etc caused by environment, but you'll probably know that. And remember to buy a top quality seat to show it off too!!

Oh, cool, thanks snap. That is good to know. We are going for a duet, uppy-downy seat as we play duets quite often, and My children play too, but they are so little, we had to be able to higher it. Cusions on the seats are just too dangerous.

Chappels do offer excellent after sales service including 2 free tunes 3 months apart, aswell as a tune at delivery, so it is quite a good deal.

Wow, a C2, that is so cool. The C1l is nice enough, but a C2, wow. I just hope that the locks and chains I shall have on the door to the music room to keep my children out while Im not in there won't look too hideous!!!! Hehehehehehe

Cheers everyone, ill let you know. Going to have a play tomorrow. Yay!

Sorry to go on, but every piano is different too. You must try out the instrument you plan to buy (something you can't do online!) Just watch out for an over heavy action, but with Yamaha, you should be fine (thinking of the little ones fingers). God, I'm jealous, I love buying musical instruments!
And once the free tunings finish, keep the tunings going, About 40 a time. Spend that kind of money, you must look after it...

I wish you a lifetime of pleasure playing your piano!

..but only every 6 months or so!

I must shut up now!

tuning every 6 months, not playing....

<Grrrrs at self>

oh i shall be tuning alright, my hubby has pretty much damn near perfect pitch, and it causes him physical pain to listen to an out of tune piano!!!!

I love playing. i studied for myt grade eight when i was 16/17, but never took the exam as i was toooooo lazy. How I regret it. I shall be 30 next year, and I am going to start studying it again, to get that darn certificate...

YAY, snaps for me eh!!!!
thanks for yours help, its much appreciated.
Best of luck in your exam. Hope you pass first time - I did it twice. Passed twice, but my teacher wanted a higher mark the second time! Cheers!
