Hi Kopend, well I never heard of this curry before, so I looked it up and found this --

In Newcastle-upon-Tyne, eating a Magmaloo (very hot Vindaloo) technically breaks all fire hazard safety parameters for that person. ''Do what must be done. ...''

Sounds like it's just a normal vindaloo curry with too much chillie powder added. It probably is quite a good remedy for constipation as well.

If it's the same one I saw on a tv prog kopend it is the hottest curry on this planet and as qapmoc says originated in Newcastle.

It isn't a proper dish as such, it is simply made by an Indian restauranter because his customers kept asking him to make the hottest curry on earth and it became kind of a "cult status" thing.

What happens is that a bunch of young drunken idiots vie for the "champion" hot curry eater.

It is strictly for drunken loonies and should not be considered a proper Indian dish.

I agree with the previous posts. 'Magmaloo' is not generally recognised as a style of curry. The only style, I know of, which is hotter than 'vindaloo' is 'phal'. If you want a recipe for Chicken Phal, see here:
