Keep Kids In Economy

If you had the money, would you fly business class, leaving your kids in economy class?

TV presenter Kirsty Allsop believes this prevents her kids from growing growing up feeling entitled, and that club class should be a huge treat.

I totally agree with her. What do you think?

Really are you going to accompany them when the go to school and college then?
Good luck with that one - can you report back on how it goes and how you manage that?

As for the OP they are hardly on their own and I am sure the other passengers appreciate it. I know I would - children should not be in business class!

whilst I think it's ideal if families all fly together business class or economy I am a bit surprised that you're worried about 18 year olds on public transport, I was taking the bus from about 8 years old.

As do I. The difference in price between economy and business/1st class is phenomenal and all the advantages of those seats are things that adults appreciate rather than kids who only want the screen and tech. At 10 and 12 they are plenty old enough to sit separately. Other people's children and babies on planes are my biggest pet hate. I have never been an earth mother so this need to be with your children 100% of the time eludes me.

I too agree with Ms Allsopp - the kids are 10 & 12 & I imagine they think it's much more fun to be together away from mum. They'll know that they're expected to behave or they'll lose the privilege of being treated as grown-up enough to be left to their own devices.

Spath....I was married at 20.....and the thought of my mother getting on the train with us for our honeymoon......not bliss!! :-)

Flying coach is hardly making kids struggle. I never had a foreign holiday as a child because my folks couldn’t afford it. To me, flying anywhere on a plane would’ve been a massive treat.

How old do children have to be to fly unattended without the supervision of cabin staff? I think if the kids would be allowed to fly unaccompanied without needing to use an escort service or sign waivers or anything then its fine from the POV of not using the cabin staff as childcare.... but would I do it? No I wouldn't. Wherever the kids are, I would be expecting acceptable behaviour....there shouldn't be any need to keep kids in economy because of their behaviour.

Lol we used to travel from Norfolk to Scotland on the train on our own at ages of 8 onwards!
I was living on my own at 19 Gness, my mother would not have been welcome and I don't think she ever travelled on public transport with me!

I disagree with your others too but we all have different opinions, I chose what I saw as the most unworkable based on experience.
