Soup.
Prawn cocktail.
Pate with melba toast.
Question Author
umm
did pate and toast for a starter last week, she's not a fussy person/eater which is good, but i would like to do three course again.
Question Author
is it ok to do a salad starter, something like buffolo mozarella, with cherry tomatoes, what else?
Rocket, Palma ham (or suchlike) and roasted figs.
Question Author
umm sounds good, wonder if i can get the rocket in waitrose.
palma ham also sounds a winner.
You should be able to get rocket almost anywhere emmie...definitely in Waitrose!
Question Author
so that's it, possibly - an Italian theme,
rocket, buffalo mozzarella cherry toms, palma ham

pasta with leeks, courgettes, prawns
something like tiramisu to finish
plus a nice bottle of wine.
Emmie...stick with your Italian theme !

Try Prosciutto and melon....just the right combination of sweetness and savoury.
Question Author
thanks guys, some to think about.
Question Author
apart from tiramisu, what other dessert could i buy.. based on an Italian theme.
Goat's cheese on a salad base, topped with finely chopped walnuts and drizzled with honey / balsamic reduction or a warm chilli jam.
Question Author
thanks, can't take chilli at any price, which is a shame. but will have a think...
Panna cotta...most supermarkets do ready made. 2 to a pack.
Question Author
pasta

might do that as well,
warm goats cheese salad.

Thinly slice some french stick and brush with olive oil, pop under the grill and brown both sides.

Skin and finely chop some plum tomatoes, finely chop a couple of cloves of garlic and gently fry and then add the tomatoes until hot.

Spoon the tomato mixture onto the bread.

Slice some goats cheese and place on top of the tomatoes and place under a hot grill until the cheese starts to melt a little, place them on top of some salad, a peppery one is good and add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar over it.

Dave.
If you don't fancy tiramisu, zabaglione is easy enough to make.
Stick to your idea of a tricolore, rocket or avocado for the green. A drizzle of of balsamic vinegar and olive oil salt an pepper just before serving. Minimum effort but big delivery.

Panna cotta is a great suggestion but also take a look at Gu desserts, super delicious and again minimal effort.

Question Author
some great ideas, luckily she will eat anything, so i shouldn't go mad with exotic delights, but Italian food it is.
