I made for too much onion gravy yesterday and left the rest in a pyrex dish. I popped it in a cold oven to cool and, unfortunately, forgot to put it in the fridge.

I have only just remembered it's in the oven. Will it be ok to re-heat and serve it again tonight. I know that my Mum would say.......'No'.

What do you think?

Yes will be fine, I have kept chicken, beef and pork gravy for days.
Probably. You're boiling it to kill off the nasties aren't you ?
No expert but I'd doubt that there are toxins in it after 24 hours.

So the onions won't have gone 'sour'? That was Mum's objection.
One way to find out. Hold the Bisto tin in reserve, just in case :-)
Question Author
I don't have any Bisto. If I did, I wouldn't be using leftover gravy.
smell it, if it smells fine then taste a tiny bit, if it tastes fine then use it.

I have woof. It smells and tastes ok. Looking forward to my dinner now.

Good, Sibs. It's nearly ready.
Just make sure you reheat thoroughly...make sure it comes to the boil and simmers for several minutes.

And when you have mopped up the mess on your cooker or micro, enjoy!
The key is to thoroughly re heat - I've been reheating everything for the past 100 years and it was only recentlyI learned that rice, onions and something or other else would kill me if I dared to do this.

Thanks for the warning Tilly but honestly, have done it a million times.

Too late, Yont. It's eaten. You don't know what you are missing with your gravy aversion.

I really really don't mind missing it, Yilly.
