Channel hopping (as you do ) last week came across Food Something or other, from America and they were showing a restaurant/café somewhere in Miami. And there the presenter was eating what he said were sprouts. They looked to be black or very dark red and, he was eating them like chocolates, whilst muttering about the spices etc.. But I couldn't make out what he was saying. Anyone any ideas please?

How big were they? Could they have been black lentil sprouts?
You can get red/purple sprouts.
I suspect a high percentage of 'sprouts' eaten here in the U.S. are sprouted beans. Lentils, alfalfa and other sources make up the balance.

That's not to say that what you saw being eaten was a local, i.e. Cubano dish. Sprouts, generally are not eaten stand-alone but rather as part of a bigger dish...
Do you guys over the pond eat Brussels sprouts, Clanad ?.
The ones that look like baby cabbages, Tony? Sure... with lotsa cheese sauce though (for me)!
Yep, thats them, Clanad.
Addendum... but they're not really sprouts, in the generally accepted definition at least. I grow a few of them in the garden...
tony has his boiling already for xmas dinner .
Correct anne, don't like them to hard !.
I agree tony, must be mushy !!
Not to mushy though, anne.
I forget the name of the movie, but a bunch of high-ranking US officers, who had just arrived in England during WW ll, were sitting around a dining-table and one said "The first damn thing we do when we get settled in over here is bomb all the G-damn sprout fields!"
I could understand that, stuey. I only have them once a year.
And they were querying why they got dessert with the main meal...It was Yorkshire PUDDING:)
LOL, did they pour any custard or cream over them ?.
Yorkshire pudds with ice cream in a revelation!
Oh my gawd.
I wish I could remember the name of the movie. Those two incidents certainly stuck with me.
