could you live without a tv? (or do you/have you lived without a tv?)
I lived tv free for a few years and have only had my recent set for a couple of years (had it given me, I wouldnt have bought one) but am seriously thinking of putting it in the skip. Theres only a handful of progs that I view and I dont sweat if I miss them, for the most part it seems like theres nothing but reality tv or repeats to choose from.
In the past whenever I mentioned that I didnt own a tv most people were incredulous....what did I do in the evening, how did I keep up with whats going on, didnt I miss certain 'entertainment', etc.
Would you miss your television?

There are times when I would (this week's Wimbledon, for example) and times when I wouldn't miss it at all.
I think I could yes - always the computer for anything truly important to me.

Don't 'skip' yours though, pass on to someone who needs one.
I like it for watching tennis, cricket and a few comedies and quiz shows. I wouldn't be too upset if I had to go without it, except while Wimbledon is on. If there's nothing on that I want to watch, I'll turn it off and read and/or listen to music.
I would seriously miss my telly.
loads don't have a tv

if you have a decent isp with a good download limit you could always use catch up to watch most things

We have 3 large TVs, smallest is 40" given the state of the Programmes nowadays, Yes quite easily, where ever I am in the house, if I'm by myself I use the TV for Radio reception, can't think of anything I'd actually want to watch!
I would yes, even though most things that I like as above I watch on my PC.

*miss it
We frequently go away in our caravan and purposely leave the TV behind. We've got a cd/radio, a pack of cards and Scrabble(™) to amuse us. There's many a night, at home, when the TV goes off too.
yes I could live without it
yes I would miss it
I haven't had a TV for a few years. I sometimes watch Demand5 - just certain programmes. I am happy with my PC.
I'd miss my soaps and quizzes

There ARE certain programmes that I like (some comedy repeats, quizzes, occasional documentry) but dont watch any sport, soaps or reality shows. But it seems like once the tv is on, it stays on regardless of whats been broadcast. Seems like such a waste of time when I could be reading (my passion) or doing something else.
There's no way I could live without my TV, even though I'm forever complaining about all the garbage that's on. In fact, if I had to choose between my telly and my computer, it would be my computer I'd be waving goodbye to.

wolf, what kind of reaction do you get when people know you dont own a tv?
I've heard the TV described as "chewing gum for the brain". You just watch it without even thinking.
Thankfully, ours has an off button.
Lived from mid 70s to early 80s without a TV, that's when I got into crosswords/radio/music and good company.
Currently have a TV, but also have a wife and daughter into anything Reality, XFactor type programmes, so don't really stand a chance (wouldn't have another set either). Probably watch about one hour a week.
Wouldn't miss it it at all.
I mainly use my TV connected to my DVD recorder to record films I want to keep, apart from that I usually watch coronation street & any interesting dramas that do occasionally appear on TV.
Nailit, most people are surprised but accept it.

I do have a flat screen telly but it is in the wardrobe. The cats were in the wardrobe earlier and there was a bang so it is possible that it is smashed. :-)

I don't drink alcohol or smoke - there are still people out there who insist on buying me a "real" drink when I am out.

Anyway I am being advised that it is time for bed. And I have to obey the little furry demon or he will make my life even more miserable than it is.
