never heard of it - what is it?
I think it's still paid. I noticed a tenner credited to my bank account a few weeks back
No, hasn't been stopped...are you sure you didn't miss it added to normal payment?
My wife got hers earlier this month, paid separate to monthly pension.
It was a Christmas bonus introduced during the time of JIm Callighan's term as PM. It could have bought a fair bit then in the 1970s but has never been increased.
It was added on to my usual pension payment earlier this month.
You only get it if you are on certain benefits, I believe - I don't get it.
sorry, i knew about the xmas bonus, just didn't understand the term Christmas box - i thought trt meant an actual box
boxtops.I thought every pensioner got it.
Having checked mamya's link, I ought to get it, I'll check my bank https://www.gov.uk/christmas-bonus/eligibility

Thanks, mamya!
by time I reach 65,all these 'benefits' will've been scapped I expect!

3. Eligibility

To get a Christmas Bonus you must be present or ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Gibraltar, any European Economic Area (EEA) country, or Switzerland during the qualifying week.

You must also get at least one of the following benefits in the ‘qualifying week’ - this is normally the first full week of December:

Armed Forces Independence Payment
Attendance Allowance
Carer’s Allowance
Constant Attendance Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (once the main phase of the benefit is entered after the first 13 weeks of claim)
Disability Living Allowance
Incapacity Benefit at the long-term rate
Industrial Death Benefit (for widows or widowers)
Mobility Supplement
Pension Credit - the guarantee element
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
Severe Disablement Allowance (transitionally protected)
Unemployability Supplement or Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
War Disablement Pension at State Pension age
War Widow’s Pension
Widowed Mother’s Allowance
Widowed Parent’s Allowance
Widow’s Pension

If you haven’t claimed your State Pension and aren’t entitled to one of the other qualifying benefits you won’t get a Christmas Bonus

WR.
I get mine because of DLA.
I did - it was paid with my payment w/c 2 December, I never even noticed - thanks for the heads-up!
Probably, petal. The government says that I know have to work until I'm 66 !.
They might leave the Christmas bonus. But by that time it will probably only buy a newspaper.
£10 bought quite a lot when it was introduced in 1972.It would be worth £98 in today's money.
£98 would come in handy right now!
At least it's tax free.... :-)
