I just paid for my bike to be tested, and was charged VAT. Now a friend has told me that MOTs are not subject to VAT, and I should not have been charged it. Is he correct?

I wasn't charged VAT yesterday - and the garage even pointed that out.
When we invoice out the system adds VAt to labour and parts but it always shows the MOT charge without VAT..
what did you pay ? if the final figure is the normal price wether it showed a vat content or not it doesnt really affect you.
If they took the standard test fee and added VAT then thats very wrong.

Looks like I should have been charged £29.65 and no VAT, so I have been overcharged to the tune of £2.93. Not in itself a large amount, but the principal is still the same.
