Hi all,

Can you still purchase plover?

What's plover? I've googled it but all that's coming up is wading birds.

I know it is a type of bird so I'm kinda guessing that means no then!!
Plover can still be obtained but only during the shooting season, which runs from 1st September until 31st January.

thanks Chris - so that means its off the menu

mmmm now need to replace it with something - anyideas?
Having never tasted plover, it's hard for me to suggest an alternative but possible substitutes which you might come across are pigeon, quail and guinea fowl. (Pigeon is cheap and often available from traditional butchers - but it can be full of lead shot. Intensively reared quail are very small but very tasty; they're available from butchers or some supermarkets. Intensively-reared guinea fowl can be found in larger branches of Tesco, as well in butchers). Butcher's market stalls often seem to have game birds.

Ah, so you was on about birds ;) I had some kind of vegetable in my head.
LOL rocky, that's clover!
Think Plover is another name for the Lapwing and/or Peewit - if I'm on the right track.
Oh yeah, doh! Lol
Aren't lapwings protected now?
Lapwings and plovers are completely different birds. Lapwings are often referred to as peewits and yes, they are protected as they're endangered. I don't know about plovers although I wouldn't have thought it acceptable to hunt them these days.
i was thinking about the three and four leafed variety...ooops, thats clover!
