You know when you don't have a biscuit in the house at the last minute - does anybody know about these you sorta bake yourself with the addition of an egg and milk. ie like Betty Crocker - are they nice or can anybody recommend a nice box to buy - hope you get the gist of this.

Meant to say cake
I have used the Morrisons own brand and it didn't rise very well and wasn't very nice. The Betty Crocker ones - devils food cake and carrot cake are really good. You have to add egg and oil and water to those. I always add cheap supermarket own brand coke to the chocolate one. It is really nice and moist, I also buy her brand toppings for the cake, I think it makes all the difference.

have you tried - if they have them ie like madeira or drizzle cake - sister wouldn't eat carrot cake - I just buy buns on a Sunday cos I don't eat them through the week so it is a terrible waste - luckily enough if I do have loads over give them over to my neighbour's kiddies.
I don't bake very often as I cannot touch flour. But it is just as easy to bake from scratch, no need to buy an overpriced ready-mix
Question Author
not a good baker always confused and by the time you get all your ingredients - you would be better running down to the supermarket - forget that.
Surely you could nip down the shops and back quicker than you could bake fresh?

God I am tired going to supermarkets and to run down and get two bloody buns - couldnt be a sed
Some of these cake mixes are really good, try a few and you may never bake from scratch again, Greens do several and have been going for years, I don't use them now as I like the satisfaction of doing it myself, but if you don't need that or don't have time, cheat, hide the packet and swear blind you made it.
By the way, buns will freeze so you can take out a few at a time, and dab a bit of icing on, and you don't have to waste any.
Question Author
now where would I find Greens - ie would they be in supermarkets etc
Yes Greens are to be found in the home baking isle of most supermarkets, good luck.
Why not buy individually wrapped cake slices. They have a long sell by date and because individually wrapped don't dry out.
Question Author
cocinelle - have individual wrapped but not all of them are not too great.

However, the other day I was in a cafe and a wee mini fry got an individual wrapped lemon drizzle cake - my God it was beautiful - looked at the label and it was baked by Nevis in Scotland. Nevis only supply cafes etc you know not the full cake - I emailed them by the way. But if they are in your supermarkets you must try them.
You can buy Nevis cakes in Scotland, my Mum bought some back when she was on holiday there.

I am in NI Tenrec - that is why the wee bites are just delivered - it does look like a lovely bakery.
