When it was still snowing at lunch time I decided on soup. No time to make from scratch, found a can of tomato soup in the cupboard. It was so sweet I just could not eat it. How could I have toned it down? Love tomatoes and tomato sauce with pasta but this was just awful.

Adding cream might have helped, or some freshly ground black pepper. However, as tomato soup is the only soup I can't stand, I'm no expert!
I don't like tom soup either, but I'd have put some yoghurt in it.

Tried the pepper, not allowed cream. Never again! Thanks anyway.l

Used the last of the yoghurt in last night's curry, boxy, but thanks for the suggestion.
Worcester Sauce?

Jenna, added worcester sauce, black pepper, cajun seasoning and celery salt. It just oozed sweetness. Is that why children choose it?
Have a really good South African recipe for a spicy tomato soup which can be served hot or cold. Have to wait for some cheap tomayoes and then freeze it.
Lesson to be learned - never buy soup. Make your own and freeze it.
I love Heinz Cream of Tomato soup :-/
I always add about a third..maybe a half...can of milk to Heinz tomato soup, too strong without it, hurts my throat. But I do like it :)
My family goes in for ghastly snacks ( especially for a quick lunch) , and one of them is Tinned tomato soup heated up with chopped-up frankfurters in it.
The soup takes on some of the smokiness of the sausages, and the sausages take on some of the sweetness of the soup. I know it sounds totally ungourmet, but we all love it.
Since I've cut down on salt tinned soups all seem to taste very salty.
I agree tinned tomato soup always seemed too sweet.
