They used to sell it years ago stained with a green dye. If it was safe for animals would it have been OK for people to eat?

I don't know what the rules were then about the drugs that the horses had been given before death, parasites in the meat and the way the meat had been kept and processed. In the UK now, you have to register your horse/pony/donkey as not for entering the food chain otherwise there are certain drugs that may not be administered and they have to be killed by shooting or other mechanical means and not put down with drugs.
Neigh Sandy. I don't think so.
id think it was dyed, not because it was horse meat, but because it was not fit for people.

horse meat is the same as any other meat if fresh
I wondered why we always had green stew, I though mum was playing with us!!!

You can get green beer on St Patricks Day. A pint of that would help to wash the green stew down :-)
