I see what you mean Ann. Home really is where the heart is. When our house was repossessed in the early nineties we'd only lived there about eight or nine years, just a fraction of the time in the article, but it was a huge wrench to have to move away.
We had to look upon it as a new season in our lives and, fortunately, that's how it's turned out.
Ann, thank you for sharing that, it's lovely. I'm always sad leaving a much-loved home, but I've never lived anywhere nearly as long as that!

Does anyone's parents still live in the family home you grew up in - if so, how many years?

Mind you we have lived in our own house 41 years in February!
Lovely article-evocative...and painful,as it's something many of us experience.
The last time I was in the house I grew up in-I was sifting through my Mums belongings...and setting aside a few treasured bits to take home to the UK. The last time I saw the house was about 5 years ago-it had been changed from the cosey 'ranch' style that had been home for 43 years, into something with columns, weird angles, and an ostentatious garden. Thank goodness our memories stay with us.

I felt very sad when my family home was demolished a few years after I was married and my parents moved. They pulled it down around 1975 using part of the site to widen a narrow street into a busy dual carriageway. I went to the site a few weeks ago and after all these years it is still not built on and I could see the area which used to be our flag-stoned back yard and felt very emotional as I remembered playing all our childhood games in that yard................
