Rememder a Blue Lagoon being all the rage, think it was vodka, blue bolls and lemonade! Another one was a Brandy Alexander brandy, cream and lemonade (I think)!

Grolsch lager was v popular in the early ' 80's (with the old style clamp down tops).

Harvey Wallbanger (Vodka, Galliano and orange juice), Tequila Sunrise and Margueritas (or Margaritas) were popular cocktails then in the ' 80's - you can find the recipes on google easily enough.

Cheers!   Gooner Girl

I don't know if it was popular or not (I wasn't old enough to drink) but I tink I remember the "Follow the Bear" ads.

Wasn't Babycham quite trendy too?

Follow the bear ads were for Hofmeister Lager.

Babycham and Cherry B were more ' 70's.

Not a cocktail but Martini was a biggy.....what about snowballs? ooooo oooooo n Blue Bols (sp) made with blue Carraco (sp)

Can't vouch for national popularity but I certainly recall cans of Carling Black Label, Carlsberg, Castlemaine XXXX, Foster's, Harp, Holsten Pils, Skol, Stella Artois, Tennent's being available at the time.

As for cocktails, one concoction was a Strawberry Milkshake consisting of equal measures of all the clear spirits on offer, the volume doubled with cider, advocaat to thicken the mixture and blackcurrant to turn the whole thing pink. This was then drunk through a straw.

How did I survive the 80s?

Hoffmeister lager was the one with the bear I think.  Greenalls also had a dreadful lager called Grunhalle.  Don't forget that most girls drank their lager with lime.  Lager top was popular with some blokes (a dash of lemonade on top of the pint!).  Some people I knew drank 'golden' which was half a pint of bitter and half a pint of lager!

I too used to drink blue lagoons, (blue bols, vodka, cointreau and lemonade) and black russians (vodka, tia maria  and coke)

skol, skol, skol, skol....

any bright coloured cocktails with many umbrellas, sparklers etc in the glass (see club tropicana video for inspiration)
Is it that you are very young or that the 80's were too much of a haze for you?

Just being cheeky............
I didn't drink till I was 17 and then it was only cider (or Babychams!) and that was't until the late 80's. Oh it makes me feel good to know what I was too young to drink "properly" in the 80's!!!

Now the 90's... that was a different matter!!!
Lagers - Harp, (stays sharp to the bottom of the glass!)
Double Diamond (maybe more 70's than 80's)
Orangeeboom
And the fad for mexican lagers, drunk stright from the bottle, with a wedge of lime optional spawned Sol, Dos Equis, and many more
Campari and soda, Campari and lemonade. Advertised by Lorraine Chase. The words were delivered by a suave sophisticated man to Lorraine Chase "Were you wafted in from paradise"? To which she replied " Nah Lu'on Airpor'"
Don't forget to 'seek out the lager of Lamot'

I am surprised nobody has mentioned snakebites (half lager- half cider) some people drank them with blackcurrant. We also drank leg overs (lager with a cherry b in it), Wicked Witches (a snakebite and black with a shot of pernod), Ditch Water (Pernod and coke)

Cant remember too many more - it was all those snakebites, leg overs (a good excuse to ask the barmaid in the chequers for a leg over!!!!), wicked witches etc etc etc - that is where all my brain cells went

Not The Chequers in Wellingborough by any chance, tubeway ?
long life larger was another one.
I thought Long Life (Specially brewed for the can) was a pale ale?
jolpl

Who remembers the 'ladies' on the cans of Tennents? What was that all about?!

I went to schoolwith a girl off the Tennants can, Norma Bell, lovely lass.  I remember big drinks of the eighties were Taboo and Mirage, nasty sweet sticky drinks that to ladies loved.
