Saving take'away food?

I often order take away food and if I don't eat it all I tend to put it in the fridge and eat it the next day. I often judge whether or not to save it on how fresh it tasted because some take aways maybe can't be trusted and they reheat food. But my house mate always says its sick that I save the food! I never keep it for more than a day and put it in a fresh container! Is this sick?

No, I think it is cost effective.
Hubby and I went to an Italian restaurant last Thursday and hubby asked for some garlic bread to go with his pasta. Well, they brought him a full garlic pizza which was too much for him so we asked them to box it and we brought it home.  We put it in the fridge and ate it the following day. I have also saved take-away meal leftovers.  Just make sure it is heated up properly.  There is enough waste in this world.

Hi kazzee69, I don't think it's sick at all. We also often reheat food the next day and providing it's properly done, you'll be OK. Better than chucking �5 in the bin, which is what you'd be doing if you put the food in the bin.

 

Maybe your housemate has more money than he/she knows what to do with.

i've always done that, sometimes i even save it for a couple of days, but make sure i reheat it thoroughly
two best breakfasts ever are cold ham & pineapple pizza and reaheated balti chicken and rice! Yum !!

I never do it because I'm so manic about getting food poisoning. But reading the other entries has made me think. So if I buy a chinese take away and don't eat it all (yeah right chance would be a fine thing) then I can keep it for the next day in the fridge? I take it if it didn't give me food poisoning the first time around it's not going to do it the second time around if I reheat it properly.

Can you do this with all take aways or are there some things you shouldn't keep?

Thanks guys. I don't think there is any food you can't do it with but just reheat it properly. I had chicken chow mein the next day and it was cold (didn't feel like reheating it) and it was sooo nice. The only thing I am a bit weary about is reheating chicken on pizza's because I can never be sure if it was fresh the first time round.

I nearly always get a take away on Friday nights (normally Chinese, sometimes Indian) but even 2 dishes are more than I'll eat that night. So I always have what's left for breakfast/lunch the next day. I don't re-heat it though (just in case) as I don't mind food cold - it tastes the same after all.

Apparently, despite what you'd think, the worst thing to reheat is the rice.

Rice is dodgy because once it is cooked it should be kept at either 63deg.c or above or 8deg.c or below. If kept at room temperature it can develop toxins which can't be destroyed by reheating.
Most spicy foods improve with being kept over night as the spices have a chance to really infuse with the meat / vegetables and "bed in"
In the day and age of microwaves reheating to a safe temp should not be a problem. I always keep take away food for the next day if there is any left. Also if I go out to Indian or Chinese I aways ask them to wrap anything left. If it makes you feel better you can always tell them it is for the dog. But they really don't mind.
My fvourite weekend breakfast is pizza from the night before, but I don't bother re-heating it.  I have also had microwaved kebab, which was OK, chips, which were horrid, and mushroom chow mein, which was also not too good.  As the others say, as long as you thoroughly re-heat, then you should be ok!
