BBC food has good recipes but I couldn't find an exact match.

However, I think the name of the dish translates to "penne with chicken in the house style".  Therefore if it's something you had in a restaurant, any recipe you find found may not match up!  Any chance you're looking for the disk from "Ask"?.

I suggest you get some chicken tonight sauce.  Slice the chicken, pan fry it, turn down to a simmer, stir in the chicken tonight mushroom sauce, grate in cheese and stir that into the cooked pasta.

Good luck! :-)

For the full "Ask" style, you'd need to pop the whole thing in the oven once you'd followed the steps I said above.  About 200 degrees, 15 mins with the foil on, 10 minutes with the foil off - should do it!
Have emailed mate who has moved to Italy, he's going to ask his mother in law and I'll post an answer tomorrow if she knows.
I'll race you then Tillys Mum - my coursemate and neighbour IS italian, and I shall ask him asap! :p

thanks very much for this folks.

Yes it was a dish from Ask - other half was quite taken with it and asked if I'd cook it at home.  Have tried but didn't get the sauce quite right.  Will keep looking to see what else pops up.  Thanks again

Aha Tracy (I'm guessing that's your name! :p) well maybe you should "go undercover" and get a job in Ask just to find out.  Then resign as soon as the chef reveals his secrets!!! :-)
Sorry tracykj, Italian connection hasn't come up with the goods, over to acw

going undercover would be a bit drastic!!  Couldn't face that - other half will just have to be happy with whatever I can come up with!

Tillys mum - thanks any way

I have a new idea - I shall take my Italian to Ask and get him to eat said dish and guess at the magic ingredients!  Give me a week or so as we have exams on!  I hope this will be ok!  I just thought that as we're trying to "recipe match" that might be the best plan! :-)

Ok, having read this thread and on the premise I always end up ordering this dish, I attempted it last night with some impressive results.

Cut the chicken into 1cm wide strips and fry with a little olive oil until just starting to turn brown on the edges. Drain the oil off and add some thinly sliced mushrooms and a clove of garlic finely chopped.

Semi dry fry (using just the coating of oil that remained on the chicken) for a couple of mins and then add single cream and a good grating of fresh parmesan cheese.Season with salt and pepper.

Reduce down and pour over cooked penne pasta. Place in a gratan dish. Grate some mozzarella (the type you get in a pouch filled with water) and sprinkle lightly over the dish. Finish by grating a little more parmesan over before placing under a very hot grill until slightly golden on the peaks.

This was very, very close to the Ask dish. Maybe it would have benefited from a little fresh basil?

I took the basis from the description on the Ask menu -

Penne al Pollo della Casa - Chicken and mushrooms in a creamy parmesan sauce topped with mozzarella and baked in our pizza oven.

Try it, it's easy, quick and less than 6.95 a dish to make!!!!!

Enjoy
