You can use any soup receipe in the slow cooker but remember to add less liquid as it will not reduce as it would if made in a pan on the hob.

thanks for the info about soup, it is the liquid i am concerned about and how to thicken it?
Soften the celery by frying in butter with some onion, bacon and apple to start. Add chicken stock (see maggot's comment ^) and cook it for a couple of hours. Blitz it with a hand blender, crumble in some blue cheese and give it another 30 mins.
If you can get your hands on it, there's an excellent book called Easy Slow Cooker published by Ryland Peters and Small.
Use spuds to thicken, but cut them up very small or they can take ages to cook.
I rarely use anything extra to thicken my soups, just use a blender and the ingredients themselves will thicken the soup. If it's a cream soup then the cream will thicken it somewhat.
If you like the pieces of veg left rather than a smooth soup just spoon some out before blending and then add them again.
you can add acouple of stalks of chopped celery to any stew or soup ,chop them and freeze any you dont want to use at once.

Spotted Roslyn!
Was given mine, covers all the bases.
Pulses thicken a soup/stew up nicely.
