Had an argument with OH yesterday - no change there! My birthday is 3 days before Christmas and my granddaughter's is 3 days afterwards (today). Yesterday we went shopping and her Mum wanted to get a couple of little extra presents.
OH said "Why does she need extra presents? She had lots at Christmas as it is, so she doesn't need anymore!"
I was so angry! No-one would say this to someone who had a birthday in March or June or September, so why is it different if you have a birthday near Christmas?

Money, I would say.
people with December birthdays get a raw deal. Even cards sometimes with "and happy christmas" written in!
Happy Birthday Carol and to your grandaughter. You're right, no-one would say anything in March, June or September. You'll have to buy each other an extra little gift or start a special tradition between the two of you as you'll each know what its like having a birthday at this time of year.
Tell me about it - those of us with Christmas/New Year birthdays share your feelings!

What a lovely idea maidup, I'll do that!
I tried having an honorary birthday in June (like the Queen) once, so I didn't only get woolly hats etc for my winter birthday - but it didn't work.
Absolutely agree with you Carole, my daughters birthday is in Dec and I make sure that she is treated no different to her brother whose birthday is in March. Woe betide anyone that takes your hubbies view and expresses it in front of me. Happy belated birthday by the way.

My mums christmas day..everything is seperate!

NO december birthday cards or on your christmas birthday cards she hates em!!

Birthday cake, pink wrapping paper etc and NO combined presents lol x
My Mum is on Dec 23rd....
We put money by every month to help pay or christmas so daughters birthday cones out of that, my mum does the same thing else, money would be an issue, but I couldn't not do the same for daughter as I do for my son, fortunately all my family agree. She does moan though that she wishes she could have her birthday in the summer, not much I can do about that though.

I always had separate presents as a child (apart from one year from an aunt). The thing I miss is that friends with birthdays (the special ones ending in a 0! the rest of the year get taken on holiday or on a cruise or weekend away - too expensive in December! Even going out for a meal is a nightmare as the restaurants are full of office parties and the food is usually awful as well. We solve it by going to an Indian - this year all the family went with us which was lovely!
Well carolgif, today is my OH ratter15's birthday and he has had his presies and his Birthday cards and a special cake! I wouldn't have it any other way! As he was working I took the cake in to him at work and he shared with his colleagues, which was nice. His mum always made sure she had something for him on his birthday when he was growing up. Just because his Birthday is on Decemeber 28 doesn't make it any less special! So, in my view you are right to be annoyed!
