Hi everyone, i am having a girly night in next Friday with a 70s theme. Any ideas what kind of food i should have? Ideally picky nibble type food rather than the sit down meal kind. Thanks

Oooh great can I come please?!

Cheese & pineapple on sticks, cocktail sausages on sticks (sticks must be stuck in half a potato covered in foil!)  Sandwiches cut into triangles egg & cress, cheese & tom, salmon & cucumber.  Sausage, rolls crisps & peanuts.  And a wooden bowlful of limp salad preferably with some red plastic salad servers!!

Best of all the sweet stuff...Huge bowl of sherry trifle with hundreds & thousands on top, or a Black Forest Gateau.  All washed down with Babycham of course.  Can't you see I've lived??  Others will have more ideas I'm sure but I've got an iron overheating in the kitchen!  Have a lovely time!

Thats absolutely brilliant, I am struggling not to laugh out loud (at work, trying to look busy). Thanks a lot!

Excellent, Robinia !!

For the height of su-fiss-ticayshun, you should do 'volly-vonts' with prawns in Marie Rose sauce. Oooh, it's just like a miniature prawn cocktail !

When do I get my invite, Eeeek ? (I will of course bring a box of Matchmakers and a bottle of Blue Nun.)

Yes volauvents - whatever happened to them?

Some rice salad is a must as well - made with that horrible savoury rice with a tin of sweetcorn stirred into it - and Coronation Chicken, slices of gala pie and don't forget the scotch eggs.

Why did we ever go to parties in those days?

Cheese Fondue.   For dessert - plastic tubs of rasberry ripple mouse.

For drinks it has to be a Party Seven... if anyone can ever get it open !
Glad you liked the ideas Eeeek!  How could I have forgotten vol au vents & scotch eggs?  Hope you'll all be wearing stripey tank tops!
What about egg mayonnaise, or potato salad, washed down with some piat d'Or, or mateus rose
There is a great book called "The Prawn Cocktail Years" that gives recipes for fab retro food
Ha ha.. Very Abigale's Party... Don't forget to add hideous olives onto the sticks with cheese and pineapple! You could also cut a graperfruit in half and stick all the sticks in that! Like a miniature Millenium Dome.
Don't foget the Martini, and a nice Creme Brulee for desert.

Tinned fruit cocktails and carnation milk.

And don't forget the pineapple upside down cake.

Lol....

It sounds like a great night Eeeek..

I am having a 70's theme for my 50th in 2 weeks. Some of the food I am having served is cabanossi, pickled onion and cheese on toothpicks that have been stuck into a pineapple. Mashed potato rolled up in devon slices, held together with tooth picks. French onion dip made with Philly cheese and a pkt of french onion soup served withJatz only. A large watermelon cut to the shape of a basket with the melon flesh removed using a melon baller and then placed back into the basket with rockmelon balls as well. I am making a tower of chocolate crackles for my cake. Have fun!
