What were the 'soup vegetables' that went into a chicken and barley soup?

When I was little I was sent to the greengrocers for them. They'd be sold already wrapped. There was a leek, a couple of sticks of celery, and a carrot. What else would have been used?

An onion and a piece of swede. Such packs are still available in most supermarkets, but usually without the celery (which, if included, would shorten the shelf-life).
