Hoopu birds?

Where do hoopu (spelling?) birds live? I think I may have seen one in my garden - I live in Malaga. Is this possible, is it wishful thinking (I love them) or has it just escaped from a bird sanctuary?

no,it will be wild they are common in europe and northern africa and certain areas of england,my parents live in central france and see loads.
